BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Early Childhood Educator provides developmentally appropriate care and education for infants, toddlers and preschool aged children and facilitates workshops on topics related to parenting. This position works in a team setting, creates a positive and welcoming environment for young children and parents of diverse populations and participates in required professional development. The Early Childhood Educator works in keeping with the mandate and mission of Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified and experienced Early Childhood Educator
  • Minimum 5 years working with babies and toddlers preferred
  • Requires the ability to communicate in a positive manner with children, parents, partner organizations and staff, in addition to the ability to work productively and positively within a team.
  • Experience with diverse cultures & vulnerable clientele an asset
  • Must demonstrate ability to work effectively in English and French
  • Other languages an asset

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess needs of children in collaboration with Education Coordinator
  • Assist in the development of individual education plans and implement them

Program Director: Children, Youth and Families Program Director

Purpose of the Position:

To oversee a Department of Tyndale St-Georges Community Center meeting the needs and seeking to develop the potential of school-aged children, youth and families in the community of Little Burgundy. This includes responsibility for an After-School program, Summer Day Camp and recreation program. To provide leadership to and work collaboratively with a dynamic team involved in a range of projects and programs within this Department. To ensure the program’s activities are provided in a manner that ensures safety and security of all individuals. To work as part of a management team in support of the wider mission of Tyndale St-Georges Community Center.

Key areas of Responsibility

Program Design and Development:   Assess the evolving needs and latent potential of children, youth and their families in the community of Little Burgundy, and in response, work to support staff in the development and provision of appropriate programs.

Team Management:  Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to team members. Hire, evaluate, train, supervise and support coordinators.  Provide a structured academically-based training experience for interns.  To work in partnership with the volunteer coordinator in support of volunteers.

Support to Families:  Help staff to identify and assist families in need of support and referral; Develop a network of supportive partnerships with organizations offering services for families.

Administration:  Complete all administrative tasks associated with programs and personnel including compiling statistics, writing reports, maintaining budgets and creating departmental policies.  Research and write applications for funding.  Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and use the results to improve programs.

Community Outreach: Network/outreach and maintain positive relationships with professional affiliations and roundtables.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Education or a related field of study
  • Experience in community/organizational development with managerial experience
  • Self-motivated hands-on person with ability to provide leadership to a collegial team.
  • Excellent knowledge of program planning and implementation.
  • Good personnel management skills and experience
  • Knowledge and sensitivity towards issues concerning diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds.
  • Bilingual oral and written - English and French
  • Computer proficiency.

Job Conditions:

  • Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Full-time Monday through Friday (35 hours).  Some flexibility required.
  • Vacation entitlement equivalent to 6%.
  • Probationary period of six months

Job Description:
The project Connect with Quebec is funded by the Ministry of Government Services through the program Appui au Passage à la société de l’information. With the help and supervision of the project coordinator, the facilitator’s primary function is to develop introductory computer workshops in accordance with the objectives of Gouvernement en ligne (Online government). He/she will also raise awareness of the principles of cyber-democracy and design workshops and projects to encourage and develop Internet participation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic computer training in Windows, Office and the Internet (navigation, communication and security)
  • Facilitate workshops on citizenship and cyber-democracy
  • Create workshops and prepare teaching materials
  • Update the website (content, videos, tutorials, etc.)
  • Promote and market the project and activities
  • Help staff resolve computer technical difficulties
  • Compile statistics

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the communities in Little Burgundy and the Southwest region of Montreal and their needs
  • The ability to work in both a team environment as well as autonomously
  • Sense of responsibility and initiative
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be community-oriented and have a sense of advocacy for social change
  • Knowledge of community, non-profit, and adult education

Education and Experience:

  • College or university degree in social sciences, information technology or equivalent experience
  • Very good knowledge of computers and the Internet
  • Experience in adult facilitation, group and individual animation
  • Experience working with ethno-cultural communities would be an asset
  • Bilingual – English & French – another language such as Bengali, Arabic, Hindi, or Spanish would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Moodle, HTML or web site management an asset

Working conditions:
17.5 hours per week
Salary: between 16$-18$ per hour according to experience
Start date: January 25th, 2010
